El Salam School in Tanta

El Salam School was established in 1895. At that time it was a missionary school for Girls located in “Saad El Dein” Street, “Aby El Naga” neighborhood. It was known as “Mary Kloufi Borlz for Girls” till 1916. Afterwards it was relocated to the current site and renamed as “American Missionary School for Girls”. The school was opened in 1922. The building is built on an area measuring about 4 feddans. In 1961, the boarding school was closed. During this period of time, the ownership of the school was transferred to Synod of the Nile. Egyptian principals were designated to manage the school. The school continued to teach the national curricula in Arabic in addition to teaching English Language as a second language. In 1981, the first class regarding the Languages Department was established. It was a KG class composed of 36 children. They were taught Science and Math in English.
In 1999, an IGCSE department for the secondary stage was established. The school became engaged in teaching the International and national curricula besides other languages.

The school obtained a license for the International department (IGCSE) in 2012. The school expanded whereas computer, languages, scientific labs were established, the infrastructure was upgraded and various playgrounds were equipped.
This old building, which dates back to the beginning of the nineteenth century, remains a monument that embraces time and narrates many secrets.
